Lego Mindstorms
This is our first year competing in the First Lego League. Currently, Utah does not have a league but we are trying to find out how to start one. It appears that almost every state has a league so why can't we?
In the meantime, we are going to do the best we can with what we have (isn't that our motto?) and give our students the best experience possible. There is so much information for this event that I will be starting a blog specifically for this topic.
Stay tuned for details.

Boards
Our first major project of the year in 7th grade (CTE Intro) has been to design and make a board. Students can choose between a skateboard, snowboard, surfboard, wakeboard, or longboard. Each board is about 8" x 24" and made out of MDF. The process is the following.
Trace a template, cut out the board using a jigsaw, finish off the shape using a sander and sandpaper, paint at home, and then apply vinyl that is designed and cut in class. Very fun project with excellent results.
